Bird Brain
Logo, Stationery
Bird Brain was a publishing house I created that specialized in
the unconventional writing of younger generations. It was important
to create a style that was less geometric and did not feel classically
academic. However there had to be a sense of order to convince
writers that their work was in good hands.
Caelus
Logo, Brand Manual
Caelus is the god of the sky according to roman mythology. It's
also a company I created that provides passenger flights that orbit
the earth. The branding manual created for Caelus needed to be clean
and simple to match the innovative nature of the company. That being
said, the language could have a casual tone as this information
should be designer friendly and not read like stereo instructions.
Celebrate This
Illustration
These illustrations were done for the Fall 2010
issue of ECHO magazine. The article talked
about obscure holidays that students can celebrate
throughout the year. Each illustration was designed just to
hint at all the fun activities that each of the strange holidays
can bring.
Dolce Pasta
Packaging
Dolce Pasta & Pizza was a project that provided another chance to
design packaging. Here some of the famous architecture found in Italy is
compared to the shape of popular pasta noodles. It was also very important
for the container to be resealable as all the pasta in a container may not
be consumed in one sitting.
Fuller O'Brien
Packaging
Fuller O'Brien is a company that sells house paints and other
painting products.
The objective was to redesign Fuller O'Brien's
packaging in a way that set them apart from all competition found
in the paint isle. This called for a minimalistic composition.
The
use of negative space accented the droplet shape created from the
apostrophe
in O'Brien.
Moustache
Safari
Cover Design
A contest was held in the spring of 2010 for a chance to design the
cover of Zine
Columbia's Moustache Safari issue. The cover design had to be related
to the name of the issue but also be broad enough to represent the many
short stories found
within the magazine.
Pay It Forward
Illustration
This is another illustration done for the spring 2010 issue of ECHO
Magazine. The article focused on certain places where students could volunteer
and in return receive payment in the form of free goodies.
The real challenge of the assignment was to clearly represent the
information and intentions of
the article in one simple graphic.
Trevar Scott
Photography
Logo, Business Cards
A new logo and business cards were created for this client who specialized in fashion,
portrait, and experimental photography. This mix of subject matter made it
necessary to create cards that could be handed to potential clients that
were interested in a specific style. The client also requested that
the card match the classic black & white style of
their
existing website.
Puppy Love
Illustration
The is an illustration done for the Spring 2010
issue of ECHO magazine. The article talked
about the responsibilities of college students owning a pet so
it was important to create
an illustration that was warm and inviting.
It was a challenge to create unique looking characters
while also using ECHO's color palette.
TKO
Poster Design
Some typographers are famous for the numerous typefaces they've
created over the years. I chose to research Jonathan Hoefler. One of
his more famous typefaces, Knockout, was inspired by the type found
on old boxing promotional posters. This poster was made to reference
that use of type as well as promote a mock event in which Jonathan
Hoefler speaks about his experiences
as a typographer.
Univers Covers
Cover Designs
While researching the history and technical aspects of the Univers
typeface, the time came to produce visual examples of the typeface.
Instead of simply using found images I chose to produce
book covers. Through this exploration I learned more
about the proper use of type and the way it affects an overall composition.
